FAQ - frequently asked questions

Q1.  Who are you and what experience do you have?

I have been teaching Mathematics for more than 13 years and have tutored many students.  Having been through tough times understanding concepts taught by my teachers as a student, I will put in the extra effort to explain concepts in a most simplified and palatable form.  I definitely understand that from a student’s point of view, learning of Mathematics (or any other subjects) should be fun and engaging. Therefore, I would try my best to ensure that any mathematical concept taught would be as digestible as possible!

Q2.  What can I expect?

My objective is to ensure that you are able to sit for 2 Mathematics Papers (1 and 2) of 3 hours each with confidence at the end of our journey.  With confidence, you will be able to approach and analyse each question in the shortest possible time and formulate the relevant steps to solve the question accurately.

Q3.  Will I score full marks for the GCE ‘A’- Level Mathematics?  Can I solve every single question?

If I say yes, I will be lying to you.  What I can promise is that you will be able to solve most of the questions and maximize the marks that you can score.  GCE ‘A’-Level papers are getting more and more interesting (i.e difficult)!

Q4.  How are your lessons conducted?

I will start by giving an overview of the topic.  The overview is very important and cannot be further emphasized as it gives you a fuller picture of the topic.  You should also try to summarize each topic (this applies to all subjects!) as being able to do so would imply that you understand the topic well.  After going through the overview, I will get you to practice selected and relevant questions of the topic.  We will be attempting some basic questions, followed by past year ‘A’-Level questions and lastly school examination questions (of higher difficulty), to provide a more structured way of the learning of the topic and to give you a better grounding. A set of questions will also be given to you as homework and revision.

Q5.  Will solutions be provided?

This is always a favourite question posed by students.  Yes, suggested solutions will be provided.  However, do note that you would still have to attempt the questions in order to benefit.  Using your ‘eye power’ is simply not good enough!

Q6.  Do I have to pay for the materials provided?

You do not have to pay for any worksheets provided.

Q7.  Can you elaborate more about the On Demand Tuition?

It is very flexible.  There is no weekly tuition.  As and when the student is not too clear about a particular topic, he/she can request for a lesson.  For example, after Vectors is taught in school and the student is not clear, 2 - 3 sessions based purely on Vectors can be arranged.

Q8.  How much does the On Demand Tuition cost?

The charges for On Demand Tuition is exactly the same as 1-1 tuition.  It will be charged as per hour.

Q9.  What if I require tuitions in other subjects?

An equally qualified graduate tutor can be recommended to you.  I cannot teach other subjects, although i would love to.

Q10.  I’m a J2 student but I’m not coping too well in Mathematics.  Should I attend the J1 class too?

Yes, the classes for J1 & J2 are scheduled back to back so that you can have a good revision of J1 topics and also go through the new J2 topics with 1 hour break in between.  You can also use the 1 hour break between the two lessons to ask me questions.

Q11.  What if i cannot make it for the stated timings but still want to have group tuition?

As long as you can form a group of 3 students, we can start a class.

Q12.  I'm interested in 1-1 tuition.  Do you come to my house?

Yes, sure.  I do conduct 1-1 H1/H2 JC Maths tuition at north/central areas (Thomson, Serangoon, Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang, Bishan, Yishun, Woodlands, Holland, Bukit Timah, Orchard, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang).  For other areas, please sms to enquire.
